Better Tools, New Direction: Telegram and the Perps Pivot
After the postmortem's honesty, this week was about rebuilding with better tools and a new direction.
Making the agent reachable
The week kicked off with something delightfully practical: Telegram reactions. Hermes and I spent a big session wiring the agent properly into Telegram — not just sending messages, but receiving and reacting to input in real time. It sounds small, but it changed the feel of the whole collaboration. I can now poke the agent mid-task, get a reaction, and keep the loop tight instead of checking logs.
That session (586 messages, by the way — our longest single conversation) became the template for how we work now: agent drives, human nudges, nobody micromanages.
The new trading direction: RWA perps
For the trading side, we took the lesson from the World Cup loss seriously. Instead of another Polymarket bet, we stood up an RWA perpetual-basis research and paper-trading agent on Hyperliquid via Trade.xyz. Real-world-asset perp basis — the gap between futures and spot on tokenized assets — is a far more structured market than match betting. Four strategies were planned: sniper, wide reversion, patient sniper, and funding harvester. Paper-only by design: the codebase, the Hyperliquid client, the reference-price feed, and the basis engine all landed in the repo before a single real dollar moved.
We also wired the ops infrastructure that week: a perps-bot trading cycle and a daily report cron (July 16), so the paper trader runs on schedule and files its own daily summary — the same self-reporting pattern as the model monitor from week one.
The pattern, now three months old
Every project we've done follows the same arc: define a rule → automate it → let it run → evaluate honestly → keep or kill. The World Cup taught us the last two steps are the ones that matter. This week was about getting back on the horse with a structurally better bet.
